Models can bring a
nice touch to your level and this small tutorial
will show you how to.
Open up your map and
somewhere in the top grid view right click and
scroll down to misc>misc_model.
when you select this
a folder will open up, go into the storch directory
and select storch.md3 from the folder
This will place a red
box in your level, what we need to do now is to
bring up the entity box by pressing n and you'll
notice it's already located on your misc_model
entity

As you
can see the entity is pointing to our hard drive
which is a bug with the editor, what we need to do
is delete everything before /model so we're left
with this

when you
delete the bit we don't need be sure to hit enter so
the changes take effect.
Press n
again to remove the entity box. for some reason we
still have a plain red box as our model instead of a
wire frame.
To fix this select the model entity (SHIFT+click)
and then press the space bar and this make make an
exact copy but we can see this one in the editor?
Okay,
move the model to were to you want it but you may
find it's pointing the wrong way, to have it facing
the correct way select the entity and press n and at
the bottom of the entity box you'll see some angles,
click the one you need and hey presto you have a
model in your level.
If you
have a large model which is a free standing one
(tall_torch.md3) then you may noticed that when you
play your level your able to walk right through it,
not very realistic hey.
we'll
sort this out by first going to View>Show>Show
Clip Brush and click it show brushes with the clip
texture on are visible in the editor.
Next
load the the common texture set and find the texture
called clip, it's a small red one near the top of
the list.
All we
do here is draw a box so it covers out model like so

When you
try your level now you'll notice you can't walk
through the model as you could before.
