QuArK 6.0 beta released
The first public beta of the new 6.0 version of the Quake Army Knife (or QuArK), one of the best regarded map editors for Quake based games, has been released on the official QuArK site. The new version adds support for Quake 3 Arena. (Thanks Stomped)

New Q3Radio
In a flurry of activity following their launch yesterday, the Q3 Radio page has relocated to a new home, and now offers an updated version 0.2 of this mod that adds audible radio-style messages to Quake III Arena. The new release now offers 38 messages that you can send to either your teammates or your target. (Thanks Blues)

Level Design Contest!
Quake3mods.net. is officially having a level design contest. They have a Razer Boomslang 1000 mouse and a copy of Solder of Fortune to give away (thanks Razer) to the winner! They are going to make a page dedicated to this contest later today. Your level has to be NEW, you can't just send in a level that you have already created before. Just send your maps to my email address to have it looked at.

Wally1.51b 
A new version 1.51b of the Wally texture editor is now available on Wally's Home.

Q3A Radio Mod
A version test 0.1 of a Quake 3 Radio marks the debut release of this mod that looks to add audio radio messages (familiar from UT among others) to Quake III Arena. The first release supports just a pair of messages ("Need backup!" and "Get the flag!") which can be directed at your whole team, or at the person you are currently targeting.

New Q3A Fightclub
A new version 3.10 of the Fightclub front-end for Quake III Arena is now available, either as an update for version 3.04 or as a full installer. The new release adds a new keyboard definition system for European (azerty) keyboard users, built-in support for Q3Fortress, T.E.C. and Alliance CTF, and a number of bug fixes. With the new additions, Fightclub now supports over 30 different mods.

New look at VR
VR has a new look, along with a texturing tutorial for creating quality textures to use in mapping for games or other 3D applications.

Q3A Mission Pack Details
PlanetQuake has written up a new preview of id Software's Quake III Arena mission pack, which features details on the new gameplay types. PQ's Caryn "Hellchick" Law visited id's office, and actually played the new missions, and she also reports that id is trying to make the add-on feel entirely different from the original game, with a completely new interface in addition to the maps, weapons and models. New Fight Club released

Q3 Avalanche 1.10
Q3 Avalanche version 1.10 has been released. Q3 Avalanche adds a class system, location-based damage, cloak, quad on demand, intelligent weapon switching, lightning discharge in water (!!), machine gun splash damage, an improved menu system, an ingame menu system, and more. This thing is just chock full of features. More features are planned for the next version. (Thanks Stomped)

Q3A+ Released
Q3A+
has been released. Q3A+ is a collection of enhancements for Quake 3 Arena. This includes CTF awards, individual player profiles (yes!), medals logged in all games, pre-definable teams, improved bot & map management, and more. It sounds really cool. (Thanks Stomped)

New Map Kihaku
Check out very cool map "Kihaku" By MrClean It's got a strong Japanese feel and it has new shaders, textures and sounds. My quick review is go get it here


Q3 Weapons Factory Interview
GameSpy has posted a Weapons Factory Interview with the members of this Q3A mod team. Weapons Factory is the Q3A incarnation of the Quake 2 mod that is very similar to TeamFortress. If you want to know more about this upcoming mod, check out the interview. It's really a nice interview and has some cool screenshots.

rocIDE 0.3
A new version 0.3 of the rocIDE integrated development environment for Quake III Arena mod authors is now available. In addition to some bug fixes, the main new feature of the new release is a project structure view, allowing quick access to Q3A's various structures.

Q3A Mission Pack
PlanetQuake has posted the first official information on the Quake III Arena Mission Pack. The update offers a description by id's Marty Stratton about the pack's features, as well as some details on the new weapons, and includes the first two high-res screenshots. Runtfest Final !!!!!!!
This is the coolest map I have seen in some time and Its done.
If for some reason you haven't seen the beta then you are in for a treat and if you have seen the beta. Well all I can say is dam it's even better.

I hope it mirrored on a faster server as of last night it was only on FilePlanet (it maybe just me but FilePlanet is too slow)
I would post it here buts its 10 meg in size and I am running out of space.


New GLSetup
Version 1.0.0.114 of GLSetup, the handy program that detects your hardware and automatically installs the right drivers, is available for download. This new version contains new drivers for Intel i810, 3dfx, and S3 Savage 2000 cards (amongst others) as well as fixes for several nasty bugs. (Thanks Blues)

K-Query Released

The first release of K-Query, a new program to display game server information on local networks, is available for download at the K-Stats site. The program supports Unreal Tournament, Half-Life, Quake II, and Quake III Arena, and returns all the server information displayed in GameSpy and other server browsers.

Modeling Tutorial
Machinima.com has posted the second part of their tutorial on creating, skinning, and animating 3D models with the shareware program MilkShape 3D. This portion focuses on creating and applying skins to your models.

rocIDE v.2 released
A new version of rocIDE bringing it up to version .2. Here is a clip of the bug fixes in this release.

-Fixed UI included project having ui_syscalls.c instead of ui_syscalls.asm
-Find in files now has case sensitive and whole word options
-Reopen most recently used workspace for quick loading
-Added Properties for file and project (can rename project)
-New project now also asks for filename to save rsp to
-Automatically backups up previous qvms on compilation of new ones
-Option to backup old .c and .h on overwrite
-Set font type/size for editor
-If LCC and Q3ASM are not found on startup goes straight into preferences form

GameIDE 2.2beta released
This update is for registered users of GameIDE only. It looks like the update adds new functionality in the UI and Undo areas. You must have 2.1 installed and registered before running this patch or it will not work.

Q3A Flagmatch
A new beta 5 of Flag match for Quake III Arena is now available on the Alliance Games website, offering one-flag CTF action intended to negate problems caused by certain tactics, and even be fairer when teams are not balanced. The mod is server-side only, so clients don't need to download anything to play. (Thanks Blues)

GameIDE 
A new version 2.1 of GameIDE, the integrated development environment formerly known as Q3IDE, is now available. The name change reflects the program's newly-added support for Quake II, and the new release fixes some bugs, some of which are described as major.

rocIDE What's that you say
The first release of rocIDE is now available, described as an "easy to use environment in which to develop modifications for id Software's Quake III Arena." rocIDE offers color-coded syntax editing, easier debugging, a find function, a tree view, and more.

Rocket Arena 3 Status
The Rocket Arena 3 page has been updated with the status for this conversion of the popular mod to Quake 3 Arena. Sounds like it will be in beta soon.

BotStudio
BotStudio is a Win9x/NT program used for editing Quake 3 Arena bots. It has features such as a Windows GUI with sliders, fun name and rail color support, pk3 file creation, and listing models/skins to use. The current version is 0.97b beta.


Quake III Bot Designer
A new version 1.3 of Quake III Bot Designer is now available, fixing some bugs in the previous version of this program that allows you to easily conjure up new bots to play against in Quake III Arena.

Java MD3 Model Viewer updated
Looks like the Java MD3 Model Viewer has been updated. This brings us to version 1.2.3 beta2. This is a patch to the v1.2.2, so you need to have that one installed first if you don't already. Here is a snip from the update...

New S.H.U.D.
A new version (numbered 1.4) of S.H.U.D., a replacement heads-up display for Quake III Arena that features your gameplay statistics, has been released. This new version features bug fixes, as well as support for HTML and text logging in addition to other changes.

Coliseum 2 v1.6 Released

As promised, the Coliseum 2 Mod for Quake III has released the upgrade patch to version 1.6 today. This is an upgrade and you will need v1.5 first, so hop over to scoop what you need to get the most from this Mod that brings you the Q2 Lithium feel in Quake III.


Mean Arena Art
The Mean Arena will be showing images that will be included in the upcoming Mean Arean DM Pack for Q3A. The art will be on display at the Mean Arena for a week (14th to 21st) and the pack is said to be released "soon".

New Q3A Alchemy
A new beta 4 of Quake III Alchemy, the Quake III Arena mod that alters gameplay through the possession, and struggle over, three gems, which can impart added abilities. The new release tidies up the team overlay, fixes the problem with servers locking up when loading Q3CTF3 and Q3TOURNEY6_CTF, and fixes the problem of gems going missing when they fall in odd locations.


Editing Stuff
Version 0.9 of the Quake 3 Code Manager is available, the debut release of this tool intended to help Quake III Arena mod authors keep track of their bits and bytes. Also, a new version 1.4 of the Coded editor for Q3A is now available. The new release addresses bugs found in the previous version, and also offers the ability to resume a previous search and adds a new replace dialog box. Finally, The Shrapnel Home Page has the debut release of the BCT Construction Set, which will allow owners of BCT: Brigade Combat Team to create their own scenarios by purchasing and downloading the construction set.

Weapons Factory Arena Update
The Weapons Factory Arena site has been updated with some screenshots of weapons and more. They also have word that a "Fortress Assault" mode will be added, which sounds like UT Assault. Expect a beta of this TeamFortress style mod for Quake 3 in a few weeks.

I know big deal one more map but I like the other maps this author (Snail) has made so I wanted to post his new one. Called Alphanoid 3D go here to look at screenshots and download it.

CRbot Source
The CRbot official homepage has the release of the source code for the CRbot for Quake II. The code that's available is described by the author as "all I could salvage," as a glitch caused a loss of the source code for CTF support.

New CodeED
A new version 1.3 of the CodeEd free Quake III Arena coding environment is now available, making it easier for new users to select the mod path via a dropdown list.

Pure CTF Final Released.
The Pure CTF Mod has it's final or finished release available today. This Mod gives you the four standard Runes and other features you'll feel familiar with. Give it a peek and a scoop for that comfy old CTF feel in Quake III.


Coded v1.3
A new version of the Quake III development enviroment, Coded, has been released. In the new version, the mod path is now in the form of a drop down to make life easier.

Q3A Advanced UI

Version 1.3 of the Advanced UI mod for Quake III Arena is now available from Spine Design. As the name suggests, this is a beefed-up version of the game's user interface, adding new map, addbot and model screens, Map list editing functionality, Load/Save configuration options and more.

Q2IDE 1.7
Version 1.7 of the Q3IDE is the release of the day of this integrated development environment for those who would modify Quake III Arena. The new release fixes some bugs in the shareware version and adds a more robust string search option for registered users.

A new Wicked GL Driver has been released and may improve your Quake 3 performance if you have a 3dfx card

XPlug
The XPlug Home Page has the debut release of XPlug, an updated version of the Uplug ActiveX browser plug-in that displays information on Unreal servers. The new release adds a bunch of games to those supported by the plug-in, hence the "X" replacing the "U" in the name, offering support for Unreal, Unreal Tournament, Quake II, and Quake III Arena.

Quake3 Shader Editor v.4 beta released
A new version of the Quake3 Shader Editor has been released. This brings the freeware app to .4 beta. Here is a list of supported features...

-Opening and browsing through the PAK files; reading of Targa and JPEG images directly from the PAK without extraction of temporary files
-Realtime preview of the shader in an OpenGL, hardware accelerated subwindow
-Easy editing of the frames in an animation
-Support for the rgbgen, alphagen, ... keywords, including a dialog box for easy specification of the waveform to be used, with realtime preview of the resulting grey values
-Support for the blending functions
-Support for the tcmod commands, including scrolling, rotation, turbulence, stretching
-Support for the tcgen commands, including environment mapping and projected textures
-Support for unlimited layers per shader (although Q3A may have a limit) with option to preview the entire shader, the shader up to the current layer, or the current layer only

Q3A Alliance
Beta 06 of Alliance for Quake III Arena DM and CTF is now available as a full installer or as a patch for previous versions. The new release includes a new railgun CTF game type, an Alliance GameSpy tab, fixes a couple of problems with their code, as well as a problem in the id source that prevented bindings from being saved, and speeds up the grappling hook, with the grapple in regular combat now a different speed than the CTF grapple.

Occupation Q3A
Beta 1 of Occupation Q3A is now available, the debut release of this new team play mod for Quake III Arena. Here's their description of Occupation game play: "Occupation is a Q3A team play mod based on the game 'king of the hill'. Teams fight to stay in the zone, while defending against the incoming enemy. The more players that occupy the zone, the more points you get. Includes hud with new graphics indicating the zone status."

Q3Log
A new version of the Q3Log Quake III Arena log analyzer for Windows is now available, release candidate 1 of this program that offers the "viewing and graphing of stats, user mods, HTML game by game data, both server and client side logs and much more." The new release adds printing and other new functions, updates the help files, and fixes some bugs.

Q3A Matchmod
Version .98b of Q3A /\/\atchmod is now available, a public release of the Quake III Arena version of this highly configurable mod that was first coded for Quake II. Here's an adrenaline rush of info from the page on what kind of game play /\/\atchmod can enable: "TF, Rocket Arena, Rail Arena, Solaris, Hunter - Hunted, Last Man Standing, DM, TP, CTF, OGL Match, and any version you can dream up.   Promote operators, Match operators, Filter their Text, Keep the High Scores, Off - Hand Grapple with new pics and sound, Runes, Item Banning, Multi Line MOTD, Connect Music, Anti-Camper and Spawn Protection CVARS, Client Voting on just about any server setting and more."

Quake III Alchemy
Beta 2 of the Quake III Alchemy mod is now available. This is sort of a rune-based mod, in which gameplay can be altered by three gems, which power up an individual or all the members of one team when they are all collected. The mod also adds the number of times you've been fragged on the scoreboard, and supports TeamDM, CTF, FFA and Tournament modes.

Quake III Arena JailBreak

The Quake III Jailbreak page has the debut release of JailBreak for Quake III Arena, the Q3A version of the popular Quake II mod where fragged players are jailed, to either be freed by a teammate, or to be executed when all your teammates join you behind bars. Thanks Mulder and Ryan Stotts. The first release is beta 1, a hefty 38 MB download which includes a JailBreak GameSpy tab, and word is this will soon be broken into smaller files to make it easier for modem users. The .pk3 file is also available as a separate download for non-Windows users. Their server section has a list of servers running the mod.

Clock BOT 
The Clock BOT has been released, the Clock Bot is a custom Quake III Arena Bot, Complete with new user Interface, art, sounds, and a new Bot AI that is more advanced than the standard Q3A bot

Quake University Part 2
Gamespy has put up their Quake University Part 2, which discusses adding game design to the cirriculum of schools. This is in interview format, with input from Robert Duffy of id, as well as Rob Atkins and Levelord from Ritual.

Q3A ClockBot
The first release of the ClockBot for Quake III Arena is now available. Here's the description from the page of this Q3A AI playmate: "Complete with new user Interface, art, sounds, and a new Bot AI that is more advanced than the standard Q3A bot, ClockBot has been compiled with Duel & Tourney modes in mind, so that it will help you tune up your Q3A gaming skill's while off-line.."

Alive for Q3A
The auxiliary dimension software page has the debut release of Alive, a new modification for Quake III Arena. Calling it a "twisted version of straight deathmatch," Alive adds a need to kill to the requirements to stay alive (so you aren't evil, just misunderstood... like some of the aliens in Star Trek).


Q3A Fury

The debut release of Quake III Fury, a furious Q3A mod is now available. How about this bit from the page for a concise description?: "Fury is simply Quake gone crackhead :). You move a lot faster (almost 2x speed). There is a new, fairer scoring system (based on Decimal), and power-up rewards."

Coliseum2 Mod for Q3
The Coliseum2 mod for Quake 3 Arena is based on the Lithium mod for Quake 2. It has 5 runes, red laser hook, new sounds, and new scoring methods among other features. It is reportedly feature complete even though it is at the Beta 1.5 release. Check it out if you're missing Lithium from Quake 2.


Game Company's Win in Violence Lawsuit
(common since wins again)
id's Todd Hollenshead updated his .plan with word that the lawsuit against many game companies brought on by the parents of kids in the Kentucky school shooting has been dismissed. That's really great news! At least the judge had some sense, even if the parents didn't. Here is what he had to say:

In a decision that has just been made available, id has prevailed in the Paducha lawsuit (more formally known as the "James Case") on all points. Judge Johnstone has dismissed the case on all grounds, validating what we have said all along: the case lacked a shred of merit

Arena Spy & Q3A Point Release
Users of the Arena Spy .dll, which replaces the in game Quake III Arena server browser with a speedier compiled version, have likely noticed that ArenaSpy no longer functions in after installing the Quake III Arena Point Release. Word on the ArenaSpy page is that all you need to do to restore its operation, is to "move the uix86.dll from your main Quake 3 directory to the baseq3 subdirectory." They have a new installer for download so that new ArenaSpy users will have the .dll placed in the proper location when they use it.

Q3Fortress Released
As promised, the first beta release of Q3Fortress is now available for download at the official site. Q3Fortress brings a team-based multiplayer mod to Quake III Arena, and it "includes different player classes such as Soldier, Agent and Paramedic, all with unique weapons, strengths and abilities," as well as several game styles like 'Capture the Flag', 'Command Point' and 'Capture and Hold'. The 36 MB download is available from multiple mirrors, and requires Q3A Point Release v1.16n for both servers and clients.
