Advanced
UI for Q3A
The debut release of Advanced UI for Quake III Arena
is now available on Spine
Design Projects. As the name implies, this is not a
gameplay mod, but rather an enhanced user interface
(completely client-side) for Quake III Arena offering
improved skin and model management.
Q3A Point Release Update
id Software's Robert Duffy updated his .plan this evening
with a brief status report on the new Quake III Arena
point release. Here's the scoop:
The point release is
still in progress. We are addressing several things,
among them auto downloading, mod support, cheating, and
a few other things. It is moving into testing now and
should be done "soon".
One area that we are working hard to improve on is
releasing things for all three platforms at the same
time. As we have still not released the final point
releases for the Macintosh or Linux based systems, the
new point release will be available in all three flavors
at the same time.

BIP Files Released
Polycount has posted new Character Studio BIP files
from Paul Steed. These files allow owners of 3D Studio
Max' Character Studio to apply the animations he created
for the various characters in Quake III Arena to their own
custom models. Swing

major changes. The lead programmer got hired at a gaming
company, so the project is pretty much ending here.
Version 2.0 (with no Q3:A support) will be free, and the
code will be open-sourced so someone else can possibly

Grid fix for q3radiant
3dfx
has released
new drivers for their Voodoo 3 cards. These cards
contain fixes for a problem some people were having with
the 3dfx Tools program. 3dfx said users who downloaded the
drivers released on Wednesday should only download the new
version if they are experiencing problems.

Skinlinker Updated
Skinning
101 has the latest release of the Skinlinker utility
for Quake III Arena that creates the .skin files needed to
link the skin image files to the models in Quake III
Arena. The new version now allows to create bots, mostly
with default characteristics, "but you do get to set
speed, aggressiveness, accuracy, alertness, sex and a few
other things."

The
2nd Point Release Beta (version 1.15b) for Quake III Arena
is out. It should start appearing on mirrors soon. This
version contains several bug fixes and should go final
within a day or so. The source should be available shortly
after that ( within a few days ). Per usual, all dates and
time frames are subject to change.
Changes:
-Control menu works properly
-Pure server connection notification
-2D Armor icon appears properly
-.arena files are accumulated properly across pk3 files
-A few other smallish fixes

Sorry
for the lack of updates been busy with my dam computer.
Changed video cards twice and had to reformat hard drive
and install new mother board bios and pci and agp drivers.
Sounds like fun, yea right, well its working alright
again. Here is some news that I found it a little old but
here it is.

Paul Jaquays made a post
on the Quake3World forum about some new map features in
the recent point release.
New entity (won't be in
editor)
item_botroam
This is an invisible "bot attractor" entity. It
has all the standard entity properties, plus
"weight". Weight is a value between 0 and 400
that causes bots to move toward it (as if it were a
favored game entity).
New property:
notbot Works with all item, ammo, and weapon entities. It
can be used to make an item invisible for bot attraction.
Now the big one:
When building a pk3 file, include your own arenas.txt
file. For each map in your pak, make an entry with your
map's data just like those in the core Arenas.txt
When you load a properly
set up map it should appear in the appropriate game menus.

utilities galore
Four new versions of utilities for Quake III Arena are
available (thanks Blues)
A new version of Servarena
has been released. The program allows admins to setup
their servers without editing configs manually or
modifying command line arguments.
Quake
3 Control is a remote admin tool for Quake 3 and Quake
2 with QW support in the works. It allows you to change
server settings, kick players, and view the status of your
server.
Beta 2.3e of QStat
has been released. This new release fixes Q3 and HL master
queries among other things.
New Q3Offline
A new version of the bot utility Q3Offline
is available. Q3Offline simplifies the setup of
single-player matches against bots. This version features
a new interface and bug fixes.
New Zoid Q3 map
In an effort to promote their Quake III Arena soundtrack, Sonic
Mayhem in collaboration with Zoid have released a new Q3
DM map called Anti-Logic that also features a brand
new track by the band.

Quake 3 Beta Point Release Patch!!!!!!!
id software has just released the point release for Quake
3, although it is just a beta. Here is the scoop on the
poop from Graeme:
- New scoreboard.
- New team scoreboard
- Voting can change the gametype if the new map doesn’t
support the current gametype
- Protect CD key into a different file
- Team overlay tidied up
- Bots don't start kill, hitnokill, or hitnodeath chats
when there are nearby enemies
- Late player start on screen score display fixed
- Re-add mouselook
- Callvote nextmap
- Extra/different pakfile disconnect bug fixed
- Packetloss on the scoreboard
- Delay deferred loading of players until after death
- Load/Save config re-added

Released
QTracker v2.3 beta 15 has been released. QTracker is a
freeware game server browser, server launcher, MP3
streaming audio browser, and HTML server list generator
for Win9x/NT. The latest version finishes the PlayerWatch
skin format, adds a skin browser, and adds a new skin.

Service
id Software's Christian
"Disruptor" Antkow sends word that problems you
may be having connecting to id at the moment are probably
due to a denial of service attack, or the measures being
taken to combat it. Here's the email he sent along, since
even .plan updates are not working for them at the moment:
Connectivity Problems
with Q3A
To be blunt, we are currently the target of a major
denial of service attack which was started at 3pm CST
this afternoon.
The perpetrators of this denial of service are
saturating two full DS3's coming into Dallas, and are
affecting all Savvis, UUNet, and Sprint connections
locally.
To combat this attack, Savvis, UUNet, and Sprint have
implemented access filters blocking certain traffic to
our entire class C, and are blocking our DNS server
entirely.
Savvis will be monitoring the situation throughout the
evening, and I'm expecting a wakeup call at 8am from the
morning tech crew at Savvis for an update. I will be
calling the FBI in the morning to proceed legally on
this attack.
I sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this is
causing you. Believe me, we are as frustrated as you
are.

Gateway by Vexar
Vexar, author of the Vexar
Map Pak which includes Waterhole, Piston, and
Redemption, has released his new map: Gateway.
Here's his blurb:
"Gateway" The theme, battle between the future
and the past in a surreal void setting. Gateway is good
for 6-8 players, and includes every weapon. The Rocket
Launcher, Lightning Gun, and Railgun are available by
traveling through the Gateway to the past. Choose one of
three pathways to the past, receive a weapon, and some
Powerups on the way there. Other weapons can be found
throughout the level.
Gateway also features Quad
damage, Regeneration, and Invisibility, these items are
protected by a time locked door. A Global announcement
lets players know when the Powerups are available to be
recovered. I hope to provide in every map something that
hasn't been seen before in the FPS community, while

RivaStation has posted a downloadable Demoloop
script for Quake 3 Arena. This is good for people
wanting to run their system hard to see if their
overclocking is stable.

God Movie Released
The Quad God 33minute Quake 3 movie has been released. You
can (theoretically) get it at the Damage
Gaming site but I've got over 4hours left to get the
72MB file on my cable modem. D'oh! There is a 12MB version
for 56K/cable modem. It is ASF only so you'll need the MS
Media Player to view it.

There's a new version of Shaded
that fixes a couple of bugs. If you haven't looked into
this little program, designed to make shaders a little bit
easier

101 has a new release of the Skinlinker utility for
Quake III Arena that creates the .skin files needed to

of this program that can add colored and/or animated
player names to Quake (1), QuakeWorld, Quake II, Hexen II,
