Three new map models today!!!!!

Odium Map model fix.
I have just updated the models, Odium has a major overhaul.
That includes:  a shader fix on the body along with adding a left and right versions and a no flying bats left/right version
for those who don't want to mess with the shaders on the bats.
The link to the Oak trees has also been updated and a old pk3 deleted..

Q3A v1.29g Released! source Planet Quake
Just posted and ready to go, a new Quake III Point Release has been made available. First versions are for Linux (v1.29g) and Windows (v1.29g) as well as patches being done by use of the autoupdate system introduced in the last patch.

Here's the list of fixes:
bullet Players joining (and apparently leaving) the game cause everyone to hitch
bullet fs_handleforfile: none free ERROR
bullet After last level of tier game doesn't stay on trophy screen, instead it takes you directly to next tier screen
bullet No sound in NT 4.0 at all with 1.29f PR
bullet There is a shader bug in Pro-q3dm6
bullet developer cheats like R_Showtris have been disabled in the PR (they were never disabled, the user simply needs to run the game with “+set developer 1” minus quotes, at the command line.
bullet made /startOrbit cheatprotected
bullet Rcon issues now resolved.
bullet fs_basegame isn't published to clients
bullet fixedlegs command in the animation config is apparently not working
bullet + and - cvars fixed

The Signs of Chaos Team Arena Map Pack is Available
I just spotted this and I haven't had the time to download yet but I will.
Why you say because it looks cool and he has used my jump pad textures and as far as I know he is the first to do so...

Commander Keen has moved (time to check all my links again)
The Commander Keen Q3 Console Page is at Planet Quake now with all it's funky Q3 command juice, and there's new stuff tonight. The lists have been updated with the new Q3 v1.29f commands and variables.
The new items have been color coded green while the red items are anything that has been removed since the dawn of Quake III Arena. The regular white font are commands that have not changed.

Q3 v1.16n to play DC players
You need to be running Q3 v1.16n on your PC/Mac to play a DreamCast-er. is it worth it to have another install of Q3 running with that patch to play those dreamCast-ers....

DC Meets PC In Q3 source Planet Quake
Tonight's the night PC'ers, you all get to meet the DreamCast players online! The DC Map Pack is upon us. This is 23 levels that are new to the PC crowd, but all of commercial quality. Head to Sega's Quake III area and get your downloads started!

The "Dreamcast Map Pack" includes maps formerly exclusive to the Dreamcast version of the game, and enables Windows, Macintosh* and Linux gamers to play in the new environments against Dreamcast gamers online. The pack also includes alternate versions of non-exclusive popular favorites, and the new maps are playable in several different QUAKE III Arena play modes.

In order to play against Dreamcast gamers online, PC users must have a 1.16n or lower version of QUAKE III Arena available, and use GameSpy 3D or PingTool to browse the Sega Dreamcast servers.

QuakeCon 2001 Map Object Model Contest
id Software, Polycount, QuakeCon 2001, and the rest of the QuakeCon sponsors have officially announced the launch of the second annual QuakeCon 2001 Map Object Model Contest. This is a competition to create map objects for use in maps for Quake 3 Arena, Team Arena, and community mods as well. Full details can be fore here.

Astro's new forums
For those who don't know Astrocreep he was the moderator over at the Quake3World editing forum for about as long as it's been there. He has donated tons of time and knowledge to those boards. Well he decided to branch off on his own and has created Astrocreep's Level Editing Forum. The new digs are pretty slick with lots of options for a UBB. Stop on over and check it out if you're looking for a new source of editing information or for a new point of contact in the Q3A level editing community.

I have moved all the Tutorials from the dieing site QWorkshop3 I did this because I think PlanetQuake will be deleting the site because it hasn't had any updates for months now. MilkShape 3D v1.5.6 released Source: Stomped
There is a new version of MilkShape 3D out today. This brings the multi-game 3D modeler to version 1.5.6. Here is a list of changes for this version.

-Added: bones/joints are colored differently, when they have a key at the current time.
-Added: mouse wheel support for orthogonal and perspective viewports. Use the SHIFT modifier to zoom in/out 10 times faster.
-Added: middle mouse button support for panning viewports.
-Added: FatBoy plugin by DragonZap. For making models fatter or thinner.
-Added: latest VRML 97 exporter by Roland Smeenk. This update adds some extra exporter options for formatting the output. Animation can be exported (coordinateinterpolator) and it is now possible to export Hanim 1.2 (skinned mesh) compliant models.
-Updated: TMD importer and Smooth Edge plugins by DragonZap.

Hint Brush Tutorial updated.
I have added even more info to my Hint brush tutorial. I received a email from Goetzenzar that informed me of the \r_lockpvs command and it does help tons on figuring out hint brush placement. Thus I had to add it to the Tutorial.

GtkRadiant 1.1-TA released
The long awaited gtkRadiant 1.1 for Team Arena has finally been released! It's been a long time coming now, but it is finally ready for anyone that has waiting for patiently (or not). You can grab version 1.1 of gtkRadiant-TA here, and if you are the type that likes to read up on what changes were made while it downloads, you can check the change log and other new information out here. For all of us with short attention spans, here's a quick summary of what's new:

Hint brush tutorial input
I have received many letters on hint brushes now, I will be making a few changes to the tutorial. The main one is the command to see what the PVS is to view it type \r_lockpvs 1 the engine will only draw what your pvs is, from where you were standing when you entered that command.
The same command but with a 0 turns it off. I hope to make the changes to the tutorial by this weekend.....

Quake3World has added my map to the list of  April Maps. When I first heard of  this list of hand picked maps I thought I could never get a map  on the list.
I guess all those hours mapping has improved my mapping skills (very cool).

Just did some rewording of my light tutorial.
To save you from looking at it all the main thing is to use info_nulls to target light entities to get that spot light effect, and not to use target_positions. The reason is target positions are remembered by the game engine and info_null are not, so target positions are using some of that computers power well I want all the power I can get to help frag.

The Q3Dm0Door Prefab Fixed
Has been fixed with a 2 unit wide area portal brush's so if you haven't downloaded it yet grab it here. If you have already you could re-download it or just fix it your self.


Time to clean up the site a bit.
I will be removing some of the files on my site as my host said its time to trim out some space on the hard drive.
The first thing to go will be the team arena demo 120 megs worth.

Prefab news
I also have learned the area portals should be 3 units wide or smaller so this means the door prefab will have to be changed if you have already downloaded it just edit the area portal so its thinner. I will redo it and upload later.

hacked together with Fubar's help a zip which contains the required stuff to make a terrain map for Q3. This is mostly useful if you don't have a Quake III: Team Arena installation yet. Id software authorizes the redistribution of the media included in this archive (which comes mostly from TA) to use with your maps.

Major Oops  in Fps Textures Fixed!!!!
In the set of textures that I just released a few days ago I had saved many of them with a darker layer in the background texture.
They didn't work with the base id textures because of this I redid them and you will have to re-down load them. The extra textures are now in the same pk3. If you downloaded them already delete fps_add1.zip and fps1.pk3. And then open the new zip.
Sorry for the screw up these are all tested and they do work.........

Also the temp plate textures for PaintShop Pro 7 and Adobe Photoshop 5 so you can change the back ground texture for the jump pads.

GOLD Team Arena
Following the Todd Hollenshead update by mere moments, Robert Duffy has a .plan file update of his own. Here's the next one telling us all that Quake III Team Arena is a done deal and with news on the source code in this one, I'll post the whole update as well.

Team Arena is Gold. :-)

Some other things coming down the pipe from us in the near future.

Source code was made available earlier today to MOD authors so they can prepare their mods to be compatible with the 1.27 point release. This will help get everyone up on the same rev of the game at the same time. The point release ( 1.27 ) will be released a day or two before Team Arena hits shelves.

As soon as Team Arena is on shelves, full tool source code will be released as well as new executables and I beleive Graeme will be releasing the ROQ compiler as well. These are all good things. I am going to get Timothee and the GTKRadiant crew tool source in a day or so, so they can prepare that flavor of the editor and tools for the masses.

The official combined game source will be released during the same time period as the tools. This will be the integrated Q3A and TA source base.

Thanks to everyone that assisted with testing during the beta cycle and feedback during the demo.

It contains 114 new Qake3 textures for your maps.You can get it at EvilLair's site [hfx].  Preview page. 
I have a feeling that EvilLair is getting a job somewhere so this might be the last texture set for awhile. I will post that news when I know more. Go now and grab this set!!!!!!

Team Arena Demo Released!!!!!
As promised earlier, PC.IGN has posted the Quake III Arena: Team Arena demo. This 127 MB demo is for Win32 only, and contains one level featuring all three of the new gameplay types (plus CTF) as well as two new models, three new powerups, one new weapon and one new item. IGN has an exclusive on the file for the next 30 minutes or so, more links when then come in. God I hate my modem.....

GtkRadiant 1.1 released
Version 1.1 of GtkRadiant has been released for Windows and Linux. The curry and pk3man plug-ins are now incuded in the setup. Version 1.1 has been tested for a while and is believed to be stable, with version 1.2 already being worked on. You can grab this modified version of QE4 editor from 3D Downloads and Loki Games. GtkRadiant only does Quake III Arena editing right now.

Evil_Lair texture pack 5!!!!! 
Evil_lair just released texture set 5, you can grab it at his site hfx These are industrial in theme. This set has 126 textures. (4.83megs) And they are the best work Evil_lair has done and if you have seen his last work its hard to believe they could be any better, but there are. Why are you still reading this go get them now...........

Light Tut has been revised
Thanks to John Hutton again he has helped correct and point out a few things that needed better explaining. 
One change is all the sub pages are labeled with what's in them.
The other changes are mainly typo's, spelling and a few better pic's.

It's been a crazy week not to much getting done on mesh tut. I did fix the last page with a lot of help from John Hutton. I also have been beta testing a map for a guy (No names yet) that wants to go pro this has been eating in to my free time, but I will get back to finishing this mesh tut soon..
My next tut is going to be about hint brush's and cluster portals.
