Texture
align Tut
This is a simple tut
but many people have asked for it.
How to get those darn textures to line up.
So you are having trouble getting
those textures to line up right well don't sweet it we
have all been there at one time.
I hope this helps you speed up the learning curve.
Ok lets start you have a texture that
looks like this.

You say dam that looks ugly how to get it to go up a
little, first ctrl-shift left mouse click on the brush face this
highlights just that bad face, then hit the S key, this
brings up a surface inspector looks like this.

You will notice there is allot of surface flags to the
right of this part of pic (not in this picture) they are
left over's from Quake2 and have no use in Q3 so ignore
them. They have been removed in Q3r201 and above.
Now see the Horizontal shift and Vertical shift we want
to make the vertical shift 128, you can use the little
arrows or highlight the numbers in the box then type in
128 then hit enter.
Now lets learn a shot cut to aligning multiple
faces.
To select multiple faces press and hold the crtl-shift-alt
keys while left clicking on the faces in the 3d window.
Then hit the s key and type in the
number beware this will change all the textures to the
texture that's name is in this window.
To solve this problem select that
texture first then press S then hit esc this will close
the surface inspector now leave that face selected and
select the rest of them (crtl-shift-alt) left click in
3d window reopen surface inspector (s) then click apply.
Cool huh, all faces match that texture.
Now we will explore the surface inspector for patch mesh's
(curves)
First select a mesh in this pic its a column use shift
left click to select it.

now open the surface inspector (s) key it will look like
this.
Notice this time the the Vertical shift is in 0.050000
instead of whole numbers. This time we have to move it
up two clicks of .05 up on the arrows.
You can change the number to say .005 and move it real
slow.
This will take practice to get a good feel for where to
start.
Now onto those dam caped bevels that look all out of
wack.

One tip right click on grouped bevel then select ungroup
this will come in handy for selecting just one cap at a
time.
Now with the ugly cap selected open surface inspector
(s) key then hit natural

it didn't do much now did it, don't worry we are almost
there. Close surface inspector (esc) key with the cap
still selected hit the crtl-shift-n keys keep doing the
crtl-shift-n keys until it looks good. Now it may be off
a little just open the surface inspector again and
align, this is were a extra zero in the shift
boxes might come in handy (0.005)
There is more to learn but this is enough
for me to type today, good luck.
Map on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
